Guidance in Lithuania
The formation and development of career guidance system in Lithuania is within the responsibility of two executive authority institutions of the Republic of Lithuania: Ministry of Education and Science (Švietimo ir mokslo ministerija and) Ministry of Social Security and Labour (Socialinės apsaugos ir darbo ministerija).
The Ministry of Education and Science delivers information on the available training opportunities and conditions provided by study curricula of training institutions, organizes the implementation of such curricula as well as the preparation and implementation of programs on the development of career planning skills intended for learners of general education and vocational training schools. The Ministry of Social Security and Labour is responsible for labour market career guidance, i.e. it develops programs on the provision of labour market career guidance services and organises their implementation as well as provides information and forecasts on the situation within the labour market. The Ministry performs its functions through its accredited institutions – the Lithuanian Labour Exchange (Lietuvos darbo birža)and the Lithuanian Labour Market Training Authority (Lietuvos darbo rinkos mokymo tarnyba) operating on the territorial principle.
Lithuania, like other EU Member States, has joined a single European information system, comprised of EURES (search of jobs in Europe) europa.eu.int/eures and PLOTEUS (learning opportunities in Europe) europa.eu.int/ploteus parts. There has been also established AIKOS (www.aikos.smm.lt) - a national open vocational information, counselling and guidance system making available to a wide range of customers the education, statistics and labour register data and offering relevant information to career guidance services providers.
