Communication

There are no problem using normal or mobile phone for national or international calls in Lithuania.

To make an international call, first dial 00, then dial a country (and city) code and then – telephone number. Usually all country codes are listed in the telephone books or may be consulted by calling 117 (free of charge telecom customer service) or 118 (information telephone at 1,5 LTL per a call).

Pay-phone cards (telefono kortelė) may be purchased in all press kiosks (Lietuvos spauda), shopping centers or supermarkets.

Mobile communications are provided by the three major operators in Lithuania – Omnitel, Bite GSM and Tele2. Prepaid mobile telephone cards (EXTRA from Omnitel, LABAS from Bite GSM, PILDYK from Tele2) ease communication both within Lithuania and other countries.

For longer stay in Lithuania it is advisable to subscribe to one of the mobile phone companies, as it is a much cheaper option than to use services of home countries. International calls are made in the same manner as from fixed telecommunications telephone (00-country code-city code-telephone number). To make phone call to Lithuania from abroad one should dial the international country code 370, the area access code of the required city of Lithuania and subscriber’s telephone number..

The internet is also very accessible way for communication. Having no regular access to internet one can use it in libraries, internet cafes or other places of public internet access. Such places are indicated by a new road sign Internet.
